Stephen Kenny has been officially unveiled as the Republic of Ireland’s Under-21 manager.The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) confirmed Kenny, 47, would be leading the eldest youth team when Mick McCarthy was named senior boss on Sunday afternoon.And he has now been unveiled, with the FAI also announcing the former Dundalk manager will succeed McCarthy as senior manager after Euro 2020.A statement read: “The Football Association of Ireland confirms that Stephen Kenny has been appointed as Republic of Ireland Under-21 manager and will become senior mens team manager after EURO 2020.“The Dubliner, who guided Dundalk to four SSE Airtricity League Premier Division titles in the last five seasons, will also be responsible for overseeing the underage international teams.”Kenny’s most remarkable achievement was guiding Dundalk to the Europa League proper in the 2016/17 season, and then drawing with AZ Alkmaar and beating Maccabi Tel Aviv in the competition. He has totalled 46 matches across UEFA competitions, and has collected 18 senior titles in Ireland throughout his career.Kenny said: “I consider it a huge honour to be appointed manager of the Ireland Under-21 team.“Im delighted with the position I have been offered and Im looking forward to the next four years and beyond. Im excited to get started and work on developing and nurturing the next group of talented players.”
