Liverpool have an ace up their sleeve in the race to sign Timo Werner – Naby Keita.Keita played alongside Werner for RB Leipzig before heading to Anfield last summer, though he has been slow to show off his true talent in his debut season.2

Werner is widely regarded as one of the finest young strikers in world football

However, he could prove his worth to the Reds off the pitch by playing a role in bringing long-term Liverpool target Werner to Merseyside.Werner, the Germany forward, has been linked with the Reds since before he moved to Leipzig in 2016, with reports of a potential Liverpool swoop resurfacing as recently as January.And, with Bayern Munich also said to be ready to sign Werner, Keita is ready to tell the forward to join Liverpool instead of Leipzig’s Bundesliga rivals.Speaking to Sport Bild, as quoted by ESPN, Keita said: “We played really well together at Leipzig, and he was one of my best mates. “It’s clear: Should he move, then I ask Timo to join us here at Liverpool.”Keita’s Liverpool team-mate Sadio Mane said he would do the same, having been impressed by Werner whenever watching him play.“I’d advise him [Werner] to join Liverpool,” Mane added. “I like his style of play.“Very forceful, good finish, always giving it 100 per cent. If he wants to join us, we’d welcome him to our team.2

“When it was clear that Naby would join us, I often watched Leipzig matches. But to be honest: It was dreadful for me at the start. Naby saw quite a few red cards.“I then asked Kevin Kampl, my friend from our time at RB Salzburg, why Naby always got sent off. He didn’t know.“Naby missed some important games and I could watch other players more closely. And Timo stood out.”Despite Liverpool’s long-standing interest in Werner, he has previously admitted he would prefer to play for their fierce rivals Manchester United, as he is ‘more Man United than Liverpool’.
