While billions around the world will be frantically getting in their Christmas shopping, football fans are eagerly awaiting the return of the January transfer window.Always entertaining and littered with bargains, bizarre deals and the occasional jumping of the gun (we’re looking at you Peter Odemwingie). For those whose deals expire next summer, they can negotiate a pre-contract agreement with a top European side. With Aaron Ramsey already set to run his contract down at Arsenal,talkSPORT.com picks out the ten best players whose contracts run out in 2019 and follow suit.
David De Gea
10If Kepa Arrizabalaga is worth 70m, De Geas value is mouth-watering. Only an administrative error prevented him from joining Real Madrid on deadline day in 2015. Manchester United are hopeful of tying De Gea down to a new long-term contract and have an option to extend his current deal by 12 months. But they have still not made any announcement on De Gea’s future and, as it stands, he is out of contract in 2019.Cesc Fabregas
10It remains to be seen whether Fabregas will force his way into Chelsea’s plans under Maurizio Sarri this season. Mateo Kovacic, NGolo Kante, Jorginho, Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are all currently ahead of him in the central midfield pecking order and, with the 31-year-old on big wages, it would be surprise if he signed a new deal beyond 2019.Toby Alderweireld
10The Tottenham defender was linked to Manchester United throughout the summer after failing to agree a new deal with Spurs. The north London side could trigger a one-year extension in the 28-year-olds current contract, but that could result in them losing him for just 25million next summer if a transfer is sealed in the final two weeks of the transfer window.James Milner
10After Liverpool signed Naby Keita and Fabinho, many wouldve expected Milner to feature as a back-up for the Reds this season. However, he has started every Premier League game so far, and has been outstanding for Jurgen Klopp’s men. Surprisingly, he has yet to be offered a new deal.David Luiz
10The Chelsea defender fell out of favour under Antonio Conte last season. He recently admitted he was close to leaving the club if Conte remained in charge. However, Luiz has become a key man once more under new boss Sarri and there is talk he is line for a new deal.Anthony Martial
10Another player who looked set for a move over the summer, Martials time at Manchester United has turned sour. Mourinho publicly criticised the out-of-favour winger for not returning to pre-season immediately after his wife had given birth and the relationship between the pair often appears frosty. United, however, will not lose their 50million man for nothing, and are likely to trigger an option to extend his current deal to 2019.Jan Vertonghen
10Tottenhams Mr Reliable is confident his stay in north London wont end when his current deal runs out. My contract is expiring at the end of the season, but Tottenham have an option to extend it with one year,” he told Belgian media this week. “I think they will take up the option. Well see what happens.” Like teammate Alderweireld, Spurs are expected to keep Vertonghen for one more year – at least – but there has been no confirmation from the club yet.Gary Cahill
10Olivier Giroud
10Like his Chelsea teammate Cahill, Giroud’s time at Stamford Bridge appears to be up. A January signing from Arsenal last January, the forward has led the line to the best of his abilities when called upon – even starting a handful of games at the start of the season.Yet it appears as though the younger and more mobile Alvaro Morata appears to have done just about enough to convince Sarri he deserves the chance to start up front. Either that or Roman Abramovich has warned the Italian his 60million investment needs to start getting some game time.Giroud will certainly have no shortage of suitors, with lucrative moves to MLS or China the most likely options for the veteran striker.Juan Mata
10One of the nicest men in football, Mata’s career at the top seems to be winding down somewhat. After two and a half fantastic seasons with Chelsea, David Moyes convinced the Manchester United board to get the diminutive playmaker at any cost.Although his relationship with Jose Mourinho may not be as cosy as it appears on the surface, the Spaniard has always given his all when he has pulled on the United shirt.Adept at set-pieces and with a wealth of football intelligence, the 30-year-old would be a shrewd buy for a mid-table Premier League side.Aaron Ramsey leaving Arsenal on a free is CRIMINAL especially
